The quick method
Launch BetterTrumpet and click its speaker icon in the Windows system tray. Active audio apps appear as individual rows with their own volume sliders and peak meters.
Move a slider to set that app's level. Click an app icon to mute or unmute it, and Ctrl-click an app to solo it while temporarily muting the others.
Keep an app muted after it relaunches
A regular Windows app mute can feel temporary because audio sessions disappear and return. BetterTrumpet's hard mute remembers the intent and reapplies it when the app creates another session.
Right-click the app icon and choose hard mute. You can reverse it from the same menu whenever the app should make sound again.
Solo what matters, hide what does not
Solo is useful when you need to isolate one app without losing your carefully chosen levels. Ctrl-click the app again to release solo; apps that were hard-muted stay muted.
Apps you do not need in the mixer can be hidden from their context menu and restored from the tray menu later.
Save the whole mix
QuickTrumpet presets and volume profiles turn a temporary mix into something reusable. Save a work, gaming, streaming, or late-night setup and apply it again instead of rebuilding every slider.

Can Windows 11 set a different volume for every app?
Yes. Windows 11 exposes per-app volume in its audio settings. BetterTrumpet makes those controls faster to reach from the tray and adds solo, hide, persistent mute, profiles, routing, and automation.
Why is an app missing from the volume mixer?
Windows usually creates an audio session only after an app starts producing sound. Play audio in the app, then reopen the mixer. Also check BetterTrumpet's hidden-app list if the session was hidden earlier.
Will hard mute survive a reboot?
Yes. BetterTrumpet stores hard-muted apps and reapplies the mute when their audio sessions appear again after relaunch or reboot.
